Meet The Writer

Jacob Patterson is the writer behind Crown Lechlade – The Pub Blog.

As long as I can remember I’ve been frequenting pubs.

That statement may suggest that my parents didn’t do a fantastic job raising me, so I should state clearly that I did not drink until I was of drinking age (although I certainly downed my fair share of Panda Pops in those early years). I come from a village nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds, an area of outstanding beauty and an example of England at its most antiquated. Even though mobile internet has seeped its way into most corners of the Cotswolds today, 20 years ago, when I was sinking blue fizzy pops and scoffing bacon fries, things were a little different.

Country life, for me, has always been typified by the pub community. Looking through rose tinted glasses, I often think fondly of the glorious summer days spent rolling around the pub garden with the pub dog, Tito, or knocking skittles down in games that would last hours, or wonder at the slide into inebriation that most adults would drift into as the evening rolled on. These memories have solidified a love for the village pub in my mind that will make me forever apt for a cheeky pint in a dark-oak building and has led me to write this very blog.

Crown Lechlade, named after the very pub that I spent so many wonderful nights in, as a child and an adult, is dedicated to British pub culture, a much celebrated but criminally under-represented corner of our society. In this blog I’ll be recounting visits to pubs that I pop into around the country, as well as revealing the characters, both in front of and behind the bar, that make our pubs such uniquely wonderful places to live in.

Join me on my endless pub quest and please feel free to let me know if there’s a pub near you that I should visit!
